So I’m going to start featuring local talent on here because I think it’ll be cool, and the best part about blogging is that you guys are forced to read about what I think is cool regardless of whether or not you also think it’s cool. Our first artist is Whistler based, and all you Whistler folk out there are most likely familiar with him, as his paintings can be seen lots of places in town, especially Sushi Village. I love his use of colour and line and wish I was brilliant enough to paint like him.
Here’s a little teaser, check out more on his website.

Just found this portfolio on Behance and was delighted by some of the typography in it. Fun colours, fun shapes by Luis Vicente Hernandez. And its even cooler because it’s all in Spanish. Check it out: here’s his behance portfolio and here’s his site.

Merry Holidays Everyone!
Just wanted to say happy holidays to you all from us 4th year GDMAers. We are happily snug at home right now with an extra 15 pounds of baking and home-cooked meals on us (if we’re lucky! which I definitely am). We hope that you are also enjoying yourselves and that your christmas or other holiday cheer is plentiful and that you are able to spend time with family.
This is sounding cheesy so I’m going to end it there. Get drunk on turkey tonight.

i want.
Posted by: Raine
OH MY GOODNESS. I want this. Immediately. It would be so delightfully satisfying to pop once you completed a day, especially when if it was a particularly heinous day or one with a scary first date.
via roadside scholar, find it for $29.99 at perpetual kid.

book art

Brian Dettmer creates fantastic book art. Some might even call them sculptures. His work is super detailed and technical and I can only imagine how many times he has cut himself with an exacto-knife.
Check more stuff out here.

holy realism batman

When I draw in pencil, it’s my goal to make things look as real as possible. Linda Huber has succeeded. Her work is fantastic. And she’s totally self-taught! Cool beans.

Originally from here, but then found here, these are amazing ads that are apparently on the seat trays of Malaysian Airlines! Sweet! I especially love the rockclimbing one. Maybe it’s because rock climbing in Thailand actually looks like that, although you’d be in shorts instead of pants because its too hot in pants.
I don’t know who designed these but they are brilliant.

A new book that I absolutely must own! But with my current lack of finances, maybe I’ll just settle for sneaking a peek at in the bookstore. (Although at $17.33 on Amazon.ca it’s actually super affordable!)
The Under Consideration guys (Byrony Gomez-Palacio and Armin Vit) have put this what seems to be amazing book together: Women of Design.
The immense body of work produced by graphic designers around the world is astoundingly varied, rich and widely celebrated. Yet in publications, conferences and other public realms, women designers tend to be outnumbered by their male counterparts whose appearances, work and achievements are constantly in the spotlight. Luckily, it’s a reversing trend. While this book does not attempt to relieve the imbalance, it does bring full attention to the wonderful work, careers and contributions of women designers, writers, teachers and entrepreneurs around the world.
Here are a couple of snapshots, there are a few more on the site linked above.

another reason to love lunch
Posted by: Raine
More brown paper bags! This time, though, they actually hold lunches. Check t the cool lunch bag art by a Tumblrer dad who draws his kids amazing lunch bags each day on his own lunch break. I wish I had someone to draw me lunch bags. He must be the coolest dad ever.
Anyway, check it out. This guy has been featured on many-a-site, but the latest place that I’ve seen was Drawn.

PS. How much does that last one bring you back to your childhood!? I loved The Last Unicorn.
